In addition to our roofing services, Logik Roofing offers several insulation solutions for your Durham Region home. As a certified contractor for the former Green ON program, we have helped thousands of Durham Region and area homeowners improve their home’s energy efficiency.

Our insulation experts will guide you to the services that best fit your needs. Whether it’s a quick top up to the existing insulation or a more extensive project, Logik Roofing has solutions that will:

  • Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency
  • Increase Your Home’s Interior Comfort Levels
  • Reduce or Eliminate Attic Condensation Issues
  • Reduce or Eliminate Ice Dams

An attic insulation upgrade is one of the easiest and most cost effective home renovations you can do to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Most homes constructed in the last 20 years have an insulation R value between R32 and R40. An upgrade to R60 at these attic levels will typically yield a 20% savings on energy bills (both heating costs in the winter and cooling costs in the summer). If you own an older home with less insulation, the savings could be more!

How We Determine Your Insulation Needs For Your Durham Home

Once you request an estimate or consultation, one of our insulation experts will schedule a time to meet you at your home. We will inspect your attic to determine your current attic insulation level and bring any other deficiencies to your attention such as:

  • Signs of Condensation
  • Disconnected Exhaust Lines
  • A Lack of Intake Air.

We will also identify any penetrations in the attic that are considered major sources for heat loss and have these areas air sealed. Based on our findings, we will then draw up a proposal that will help improve energy efficiency and solve any other related issues.

Common Insulation Products

There are three popular products for residential applications:

  • Fibreglass
  • Spray Foam (Polyurethane)

Fibreglass Insulation is one of the most popular options for upgrading attics. It offers a high R value with a relatively low cost. Recent improvements in fibreglass insulation have reduced the amount and/or chance of the insulation level settling over time, reducing R values.

Spray Foam (Polyurethane) is an expandable foam which serves as both an insulator and a vapour retarder. Compared with other insulating products, spray foam offers one of the highest R values per volume. It is considered one of the best insulation options for residential applications. It also tends to be one of the most expensive options (typically 3 times the cost of fibreglass) Due to the skill set required to mix and apply the chemicals needed, it is highly recommended that you use only reputable contractors with a proven track record of success. Otherwise, you run the risk of severely compromising the air quality in your home.

Attic Ventilation: The Truth, The Myths, And More

Attic ventilation is one of the most published roofing topics on the internet today. There are countless articles and blogs available for homeowners from various resources. While many of these articles have similar themes, I have noticed some varying opinions on the importance and benefits of ventilation. I have also noticed that ventilation is sometimes a scapegoat for a deeper, more underlying problem. In today’s article, I want to cover what I feel are the truths about attic ventilation regarding its importance and benefits. I also want to mention where I see ventilation (specifically, the lack of) as being unfairly blamed for issues and deficiencies that have deeper rooted problems. I will also discuss some common products used for attic ventilation.
