Commercial and residential buildings in Canada are responsible for 18% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, and the government seeks to support Canadians in making their properties more efficient to fight climate change. Homeowners are eligible for up to $600 for the cost of pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation, post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations, and up to $5000 in total for the implementation of eligible retrofits.
Both the pre-retrofit evaluation and post-retrofit evaluation are requirements to receive the retrofit grant. To qualify for any of the available clean energy grants Canada offers, you must complete at least one of the retrofits that your energy advisor recommends in their pre and post-retrofit report.
In this post, we’ll highlight the retrofits for the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
Why You Should Talk to Your Energy Advisors about the Canada Greener Homes Grant
The Greener Homes Initiative Canada grants up to $5000 to homeowners upgrading eligible attic/ceiling, exterior wall, basement or foundation, and crawl spaces.
Your Renovation Upgrade Report will provide you with a target to improve the airtightness of your home. This can earn you a grant of up to $1000.
Windows and Doors
Replacing your windows or glass doors with Energy Star certified models can provide many benefits. This retrofit makes you eligible for a maximum grant of up to $5000.
Installing a new programmable or smart/adaptive thermostat is eligible for a grant of up to $50.
Space and Water Heating
Investing in more energy-efficient heating equipment like cold climate heat pumps can save on your energy bill. An energy advisor or contractor can help you determine the costs and benefits of installing a heat pump in your area and potential savings.
Grants are available for both air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.
Homeowners can receive up to $5000 in grants to implement solar-powered energy in their primary residence. The Ontario greener homes grant can discount your solar system costs significantly.
Adding energy-efficient retrofits that could help protect your home and family from environmental damages combined with at least one of the energy efficiency retrofits from the Canada Greener Homes Grant Initiative makes you eligible for a grant of up to $2625.
